Today marks '100 days to go' until the London 2012 Olympic Games and Birmingham will mark the day with 100 volunteers in Victoria Square lining up in the shape of the number 100.

The volunteers will also hold the 'Bolt' pose for 9.58 seconds in honour of the great athlete's 100 metre sprint record.
Over 250 volunteers have been recruited over the last few months to undertake roles such as stewards, kit carriers and community liaison, as the city prepares to welcome the USA and Jamaica track field teams ahead of the London 2012 Games.

Sharon Lea, Strategic Director, Environment and Culture at Birmingham City Council said: “Birmingham is playing a key role in the preparations for the Olympics by hosting two training camps for some of the greatest athletes on the planet.  Both the Jamaican and USA track and field teams chose Birmingham for its great facilities and ability to stage  major sporting events.”

“We are very proud of our Birmingham volunteers and appreciate the time and effort they give to ensure that our events are a great success.”

Wednesday 18 April is also the date that Birmingham City Council launches its Olympic website Birmingham 2012 www.birmingham2012.co.uk, which will contain the full programme of major activities taking place in the city.  The site will also include a link to 'Birmingham Our Games' which will have information on how communities and volunteers can register and get involved with activities.
