One-hundred sports volunteers will gather in Victoria Square in front of the Council House at 11am on Wednesday 18 April, where they will create a large 100 to mark the countdown to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The sporting volunteers will be wearing a variety of sporting event t-shirts and polo shirts showcasing Birmingham's vast and diverse sporting event history.

Several of the volunteers will also perform their own versions of the 'Bolt' pose for 9.58 seconds commemorating Usain Bolt's 100 metre sprint record.

Birmingham will be hosting both the Jamaican and USA track and field team ahead of the Olympics and there will be video footage on the BBC Big Screen airing messages from both teams on their forthcoming visit to Birmingham.

Wednesday 18 April is also the date that Birmingham City Council launches its Olympic website Birmingham 2012 www.birmingham2012.co.uk which will contain the full programme of major activities taking place in the city.  The site will also include a link to www.birminghamourgames.co.uk which will have information on how communities can register their local events and get involved with the torch relay activities.
