New Street plan is revealed (Birmingham Mail page 6, Midlands Today): A scale model of the future of New Street station has gone on display at the station until Oct 23rd for members of the public to view and pass on comments. Interview with the Leader stressing comments will be fed to architects and feed into final design. Also quoted saying new station will be delivered on time and on budget.

Funeral tribute to Jim (Birmingham Mail, page 16): Funeral of BCC electrician James Turner to take place. Mr Turner started working for the Council aged 14 and retired 20 years ago after 50 years.

Council website is now rated ‘most improved’ nationally (Birmingham Mail, page 19) Council website has leapt from last in national league table of local authority websites into the top 20 – a rise of 409 places making it the most improved in the country.

Keep on running Brum! (Birmingham Mail, page 22 letters page): Extensive praise for the Birmingham Half Marathon last Sunday. Main letter says it’s in the same league as London Marathon and Great North Run. Further seven letters glowing praise, one letter complaining about transport and lack of open cafes for spectators around New Street.

Midland hospitals getting worse (BBC Midlands Today, ITV Central)): Standards of health services across the Midlands getting worse with more than a half described as poor. Dudley and Staffordshire singled out as particularly bad. Birmingham and Shropshire praised.
