It’s great to be back in Birmingham

fcm buildKurt Stroscher – manager of the Frankfurt Christmas Market takes a few minutes out from hectic preparations for tomorrow’s opening to say he’s delighted to be back in Birmingham for a ninth successive year.

With less than 24 hours to go before we open for business there’s a lot of excitement around the Frankfurt Christmas Market. There’s also a lot of hard work still to be done, with carpenters, electricians and stall holders working hard to be ready for the start of trading at 10am tomorrow.

The stalls arrived on Sunday and we started the build on Monday, so to get such a large market ready for Thursday morning requires a great deal of hard work. It is the same every year, with everything appearing chaotic on the day before but we know we will be ready to welcome the first visitors to the market tomorrow.

So how can I be so sure everything will be ready? Well I’ve been coming to Birmingham for this wonderful Christmas market for nine years now and we’re always ready!

I look forward to returning to Birmingham every year because the people of this city are always very welcoming. They clearly love the market and take a great deal of pride in the fact that the largest German Christmas Market outside Germany and Austria is based right here in Birmingham.

I’ve seen the market grow year after year and 2008 was amazing with 2.8 million visitors to the market – let me tell you many cities in Germany would be happy with that figure.

Hopefully we can attract even more visitors this year…but first we have to make sure the market is ready for the first visitors tomorrow.
