Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (BMAG) will promote the city on the international stage in 2010, loaning works of art to some of the most significant museums in the world.
Works, including a number taken from Birmingham’s world famous Pre-Raphaelite collection, will go on display in museums and galleries across the globe over the next 12 months.
And Leader of the Council Mike Whitby believes the loans significantly enhance Birmingham’s cultural reputation on the world stage.
He said: “Through the international loans programme Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery really promotes the city across the world, enhancing our reputation as a cultural centre.
“This year we will loan works of art to exhibitions in a number of countries including: USA, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, Japan and China. Last year we even had works on display in the Louvre and Spain’s world famous Alhambra.”
