Refuse collections update (Jan 6)

City-wide refuse collections will continue as normal where safe today but the snow and icy conditions mean Birmingham City Council’s Fleet and Waste Management cannot make collections on some side roads.

Cabinet Member for Transportation and Street Services, Cllr Len Gregory, explained: “Our crews have gone out as usual this morning and scheduled collections have been made on all roads where access was not a problem.

“However, some side roads are not as accessible and the sensible decision is to carry out collections where safe. We will continue to monitor the situation.

“Obviously the disruption is regrettable, but unavoidable due to the road conditions at present, public safety must be paramount when vehicles of 26 tonne are involved to avoid the threat of potential accidents and damage to parked vehicles in icy conditions.”

Residents who miss a collection today are urged to remove bin bags from the roadside and store them as usual until the next scheduled collection.

Residents experiencing exceptional difficulties should call 0121 303 1112.
