Aspiring filmmakers are being invited to take part in a 48 hour film challenge as part of Hello Digital’s new programme of events, Say Hello.
Following its debut at last year’s Hello Digital Festival, Film Dash is returning from 5th-7th March to kick-start this year’s public programme of events. Produced by Chris Unitt of Meshed Media, Film Dash challenges budding filmmakers to write, cast, shoot and edit a short film in 48 hours. The competition is free to enter and open to anyone who is interested in filmmaking. Filmmakers need to register their team online (www.filmdash.com) and attend the event launch on 5th March before handing in their completed film 48 hours later.
The best films will be judged by an expert panel, including editor of Film4.com Catherine Bray and feature film script editor, Kate Leys. A selection of the films will be screened throughout the year by Say Hello and also hosted on sponsor Bullring’s website www.lifefeelsbetter.co.uk, which will be advertised on Yahoo Movies, MSN Movies, Empire Online and Film.com.
Prizes including a selection of blue-ray films provided by Bullring’s HMV will be awarded to highly commended films.

It was great that so many people got involved and we’re hoping this year’s Film Dash will be bigger and better and encourage more people to show how creative they can be with digital media. Film Dash is all about having fun which is why this year’s theme is ‘happiness.’”

Last year’s Hello Digital festival saw international innovators from the world of digital media and film arrive at Millennium Point for a showcase of free events, exhibitions and workshops. For 2010 Hello Digital has launched a brand new programme called Say Hello delivered by Birmingham-based Maverick Television and Fierce! and supported by Birmingham City Council and Arts Council. Say Hello is designed to promote of digital technology to a broader audience through a series of events including Film Dash.
Hello Digital has also launched a new blog to chart the progress of events over the next six months and will feature some of the highlights of the 2010 showcase including Retooled produced by Antonio Gould, Hi8us’s multi-media project Urban Legends and My First Email through Fierce!
