Book Bash returns to Aston Hall

aston01Birmingham’s annual Book Bash gets underway today at the newly-restored Aston Hall.

So come along to two fantastic days of FREE events with an exciting line up of top children’s authors, poets and storytellers.

From 11am until 4.30pm on May 30 and 31 six marquees will be filled with performances, storytelling and dancing for families with primary school aged children.  There are also writing workshops in Aston Hall with local writer Leila Rasheed, Young Poet Laureate India Miller and Birmingham’s Poet Laureate Adrian Johnson.

This year’s highlights include… magic with the Wizard of Wonder… Steve Cole, author of the fabulously funny Cows in Action and Astrosaurs… Vampire vs Werewolves gameshow with Scream Street author Tommy Donbavand… and for the little ones a Boogie Beebies dance session with Nat from CBeebies.

Events take place in marquees in the grounds and in some of the rooms inside the hall. There will be books on sale courtesy of Waterstones, plus mehndi and face painting which will carry a small charge. Young Readers is pleased each year to welcome The Federation of Children’s Book Groups who provide information about their forthcoming activities and initiatives plus their ever popular quiz.

Cllr Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport & Culture said: “Birmingham’s libraries do a wonderful job of promoting reading and literacy to the city’s children and young people.  Our annual Young Readers festival provides lots of free and low cost exciting ways to get everyone involved.”
