Birmingham born Harry Potter stars James and Oliver Phelps are the latest stars to back the city’s UK City of Culture bid.
With the final bid to be submitted on Friday (May 21), the duo, who play magical twins Fred and George Weasley, have joined a long list of celebrity backers for Birmingham’s campaign to secure the 2013 crown.
Their on-screen mum Julie Walters recently added her support, while the likes of Monty Python star Terry Jones and Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis are already backing the bid. (click here for a full list of advocates)
Oliver, who believes Birmingham is the ideal choice for the first UK City of Culture crown, said: “Both of us are very proud to be from Birmingham.
“When James and I were in Germany once, we were asked where we were from. When we said Birmingham the guy instantly replied ‘Ah the home of Metal music’. It’s things like this that make us glad to be from Birmingham.
“There aren’t many cities that can support two Premier League football clubs, concert and theatre halls, a world class cricket stadium, one of the biggest exhibition halls in the world and one of the largest urban parks in Europe.”
