SAP UK University Alliances is pleased to announce a joint ICT initiative with Birmingham City University (BCU) and Birmingham City Council (BCC) that will create a unique set of joint activities to build an SAP skills competence for the Birmingham economy.
The initiative includes three strands; a new MSc in Enterprise Systems Management, a scholarship and a new training facility.
Cllr Paul Tilsley, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council commented; “This project is a superb collaboration between SAP University Alliances, Birmingham City University and Birmingham Council.
“Birmingham is the largest local government user of SAP in the world and this will be an invaluable local resource to support the development of our digital economy and to reinforce the depth of ICT skills necessary to support modern local public services. I also believe this is a blueprint for future collaborations between business, academia and the public sector.”
The new degree is both full and part-time and will provide access to students to four SAP components -ERP, CRM, Business Objects and Business Intelligence.
Each of these is incorporated one of eight degree modules using SAP as the common theme throughout to illustrate to students how interconnected modern organisational processes work.
At the end of the degree students will then choose from thesis titles that have been proposed by local SAP customers including senior management of Birmingham City Council – itself the largest local government user of SAP globally.
Finally students will take the SAP ‘TERP10’ Certification giving the students a real SAP qualification to complement their degree.
“In addition to the degree, we will be offering a scholarship that will provide each successful student with an SAP Scholarship of £1,000 per student to go towards their degree fee. In addition, they will receive high quality teaching materials and a development fund to develop interactive media,” said Parmjit Chima, Head of the School of Engineering, Design and Manufacturing Systems at Birmingham City University.
“We have built an SAP teaching facility within the School of Technology, Engineering and the Environment.
“This lab – the ‘SAP Teaching Laboratory’ provides access to the very latest hardware, networking and SAP software to provide the students with a high standard and enjoyable learning environment. This facility will also be set as the UK location for exams for SAP’s remote version of ‘TERP10, which is an SAP accreditation,” continued Mr Chima.
