Yardleys Secondary School judged ‘Outstanding’

A recent Ofsted Inspection has praised Yardleys School for exemplifying “the very best in educational provision” and “showing that young people can achieve exceptional outcomes”.

The news follows the school’s exceptionally high academic results achieved in its GCSE results last year.  Currently the school is amongst the top 4% of schools nationally in terms of progress made by pupils.

The Ofsted report judged 8 out of 10 lessons as good or better with a quarter judged as outstanding.  The school was also described as having a “delightful working ethos”.

Overall progress was deemed to be outstanding for all students, with the report showing that “boys, including those from minority heritage backgrounds attained much better than the national picture. Students with learning difficulties or disabilities also made excellent progress”.

The Inspectors were particularly impressed with the students both in terms of their excellent behaviour and their commitment to learning: “Students are cheerful, considerate, very hard working and thoroughly enjoy school”.

Staff were praised for their outstanding teaching and commitment to the students.  One student encapsulated the commitment of every member of staff when she told inspectors that “I’d say they are really committed to their jobs.  They do more than the job really is, you know, not just for the money … they care about what students get out of it”.

Headteacher Mrs Rose Hughes was delighted with the outcome of the inspection result. She said, “The happy family atmosphere allied with high expectations within the school has resulted in excellent academic results. Everyone within the school community is delighted with the hard work and success being recognised in a formal inspection”.
