Rebuttal – Democratic Services taxi expenses

Stories in the media today have suggested that £51,697.81 has been spent on taxis for “clerks sent to run constituency and ward committees” during the 2009/10 financial year.

This is not the case and is misleading. The figure that is being quoted is the entire sum spent by the Democratic Services department at Birmingham City Council.

This includes taxi fares for the council’s 120 elected members.
