Royal British Legion presented with the Freedom of the City

The Birmingham County Royal British Legion will be presented with the Freedom of the City for the very first time on Saturday 2nd October 2010.

Order of proceedings will begin at 11am, at the Council House and Victoria Square in Birmingham, starting with Blessing of the New Union Standard.

Following on with the Civic Flag Raising Ceremony, when the Tri-Services flag will be raised in recognition of British troops serving abroad.

The Freedom Service will see marching through the streets of the city with Standards flying and drums beating.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Len Gregory, said: “We are hugely proud of our service men and women in Birmingham and flying the tri-services flag whenever our troops are serving abroad is the city’s outward demonstration that we are thinking of them, and at more times than just when we hear the sad news that one of them has been killed.”
