In anticipation of cold weather, below is the guidance on school closures.

Emergency Closure of Schools
Arrangements in the event of extreme weather conditions.
Decision to close schools during inclement weather continues to lie with headteachers in consultation with their chairs of governors.
This arrangement enables decisions to be taken quickly and in the light of local circumstances.
In the rare event of EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS (eg: heavy snowfall) across the whole of the city, the local authority may, as previously agreed, take a central decision to close all schools.
A central decision on whether schools should close or stay open will be made by the Strategic Director-Children, Young People & Families in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People & Families.
Any such decision affecting all schools will be made by 6.45 a.m. at the latest. The decision will then be announced through Heart FM, Radio WM and BRMB and also on the BGfL home page.
This website will also be updated if such a decision needs to be taken.
It is accepted that a minority of schools will not be able to comply with a central decision to remain open because of factors unique to the school e.g. burst pipes, heating failure or because of particular physical difficulties of the school site.
In such circumstances it will be for the headteacher to: 1/ communicate this decision to the Local Authority by ringing the School Support Office or by emailing the school closure email address 2/ communicating this decision to parents via the local radio stations either by ringing the radio stations or by emailing them.
Emails are picked up promptly and closures will be put on air on a regular basis.
