Financial housing reforms welcomed

Councillor John Lines, Cabinet Member for Housing has welcomed Housing Minister Grant Shapps’ formal scrapping of the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) subsidy system.

“I welcome the proposals announced by the new government to abolish the current inequitable Housing Revenue Account financial system and to replace this with a localised self financing system.

“This will support the provision and the delivery of council housing as a key part of the government’s goal to give local flexibility.

“I am pleased that resources have been provided for adaptations of council properties and to maintain properties in the future at the Decent Homes Standard.

“I have several months now to discuss the details of the offer with the Minister and his Officials to secure the best deal for the tenants of Birmingham.
