A special conference inspired by the highly successful The Poetry of Drawing exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery will be held on the 18 – 19 March.
Drawing and the Victorian Artist will be held at the Birmingham and Midland Institute and will further explore the wider contexts of the work of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and their followers during the revolutionary period of 19th century. Papers for the conference will cover a range of topics, including the training of artists, the making and collecting of works on paper, and changing approaches to drawing at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The keynote speech will be given by Professor Deanna Petherbridge, the Professor Emeritus and Visiting Professor of Drawing at the University of the Arts, London. Attendance on Friday includes complimentary access to a private viewing of the spectacular Poetry of Drawing exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
The highly popular Poetry of Drawing exhibition, running until 15 May 2011, is a collection of Pre-Raphaelite drawings, watercolours and studies combining works from Birmingham’s own collections with loans from public and private sources, including rarely-seen pieces, to create a truly unique show.
