Birmingham City Council is staging a local election on May 5th 2011. One third (40) of the seats on the council will be up for election.
Polls will be open 7am – 10pm with counting taking place immediatley and results expected to be declared from middnight .

Pre-election composition of the Council: 45 Con, 41 Lab, 31 LD, 3 Respect
Council seats up for election in 2011: 16 Con, 13 Lab, 10 LD, 1 Respect
Total nominations by party: Con -40, Lab – 40, LD – 40, Green – 39, BNP – 15, UKIP – 11, Respect – 3, Social Democratic Party – 3
