Adult learners in Leicestershire stand to benefit as their county council last week became the latest local authority to take advantage of a comprehensive software package – developed and built locally in Birmingham.
The AQUA software solution developed and managed by Service Birmingham’s Link2ICT division is a leading product for Adult Education Service providers in England and is being used by over 70 local authorities and adult education providers.
Link2ICT is part of Service Birmingham – a joint venture between Capita plc and Birmingham City Council, created in 2006 to provide and develop the council’s IT function.
The AQUA software will help Leicestershire manage its service to adult learners with a wide range of support including enrolment, course management, attendance and funding responses.
As well as providing a wide-ranging Learner Management Information System it can adapt to changes in education funding arrangements – a vital component of a sophisticated solution to comply with ever more complex funding arrangements.
Leicestershire County Council is also taking advantage of the support provided by the Link2ICT team, most of whom previously formed part of a dedicated Adult Education IT team at Birmingham City Council.
Leicestershire County Council lead member for Adults and Communities, David Sprason, said: “Leicestershire County Council is very pleased to be working with Service Birmingham to implement the new AQUA system.
“It will give our learners greater access to services through the ability to enrol for courses online whilst at the same time enable the council to make savings of around £14,000 a year on running costs.”
