It is fantastic for the people of Birmingham that we have a Labour administration. I know that they will work hard to ensure that services are protected and improved. However, on seeing the list of newly elected cabinet members, I am very disappointed that there is only one woman amongst them. I do understand that this is a democratic process and that the result depends upon having sufficient women candidates but really, come on. I am aware that there are some very talented members of the cabinet but please try harder to encourage talented women to come forward. Our city deserves a representative leadership especially from a Labour party which prides itself on its committment to equalities.
