Response to Audit Commission report ‘Auditing the Accounts’

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said: “The audit letter into Birmingham City Council’s finances states that the council ‘manages its finances well’ and ‘in general continues to provide a good level of service’. Regarding the publication of our accounts, our external auditor Grant Thornton recognises and has publicly acknowledged this week the progress being made. We continue to work closely with the Audit Commission and Grant Thornton to address the issues raised, and the extended timescale that we have been working to was agreed with our external auditors.”
