'Maggie the Machine' visited Villa Park this morning to unveil a Rugby World Cup 2015 '500 Days to Go' calendar revealing the date tickets go on general sale.

The England Rugby 2015 Ambassador, Margaret Alphonsi MBE, joined Deputy Leader for Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ian Ward, Chief Executive of Aston Villa, Paul Faulkner, and young rugby players to mark the city's 500 day countdown to matches of Rugby World Cup 2015 coming to Birmingham and to launch the Birmingham Rugby Legacy Plan.

Deputy Leader for Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ian Ward, said: “The Birmingham Rugby Legacy Plan seeks to drive interest and take up of Rugby Union amongst men and women and boys and girls.

“This plan builds on the work undertaken last year through the RFU's Posts in Parks scheme and includes increased funding for clubs, more qualified coaches and referees and a bigger school programme.

“Not only is this an exciting and enjoyable sport but it brings huge health benefits to those who take part as well as economic benefits to the city and stronger and safer communities.”

Debbie Jevans, England Rugby 2015 CEO, added: “Our plans are right on track with 500 days to go. We are pleased to announce the dates of the general sale today, allowing fans to save the date and plan.

“We have seen a very strong response to the Rugby Community Ticket Programme and we are pleased we have enabled clubs to recognise their loyal fans with access to tickets for Rugby World Cup 2015 on home turf.   From today, members are being registered and 500,000 tickets will go on sale from May 16 - June 30.”
