A delegation from China has visited Birmingham's Adults and Communities department to learn about the range of care services in the city.

Representatives from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs, responsible for social services and one of the most important government departments in Beijing, toured a range of facilities to learn and exchange views with their British counterparts.

Li Yanchang, Head of office at the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs, said:

“We were greatly impressed by the social care system in Birmingham, where the social care needs are matched to each person. We will look at building a similar system in China, and focus planning on the needs of the individual, particularly with the disabled and the elderly”.

Peter Hay, Strategic Director Adults & Communities, said:

“We were very impressed by the shared learning from our Beijing guests. Their interest in personalised care systems and better control of care costs shows how quickly care is developing in response to world wide changes in the age and needs of our populations.”
