Birmingham bags BMX action in June

Two times BMX World Champion Scot 'Boom Boom' Beaumont joined Deputy Leader for Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ian Ward, yesterday as tickets went on sale for the UEC BMX European League.  The prestigious event takes place at the world class BMX track in Perry Park on the 21st and 22nd June.

Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Ian Ward, said: “We are thrilled to welcome back to the city for the second time, the UEC BMX European League and I am extremely pleased that we welcome a whole host of riders to compete in what looks set to be a fantastic event.

“The track, now one of the best in Europe, has played host to World Champions Shanaze Reade and Liam Phillips, and we're hoping to see some new stars emerge at this year's championships.”

Scot Beaumont, who was World Champion in 1995 and 1996 and winner of the 2008 and 2012 British national 4X championships, added: “Birmingham is one of the premier racing venues in the UK and has proved to be a favourite on the UK race calendar. It has many great elements with a mix of speed and good technical straights.”

The event was last held in Birmingham in 2011 and saw BMX'ers from all over Europe compete.  The competition takes place over two days and offers spectators the opportunity to camp in Perry Park for the duration of the event. Campers can walk to the event in a few minutes to enjoy all the action.
