Birmingham brings Big Lunch event

People across Birmingham are dusting off their picnic blankets and making final preparations to join in and host a 'Big Lunch' with their neighbours, family and friends on Sunday 5 June.

Tenants and others who make up the local community are all invited to bring food and drink to share with neighbours at the event which runs from11am – 5pm at Ward End Park.

At the Big Lunch locals come together and get to know each other better – all in the name of community.  The Park will host a number of stalls where local organisations will promote projects run in their neighbourhoods.  It will also include a programme of acts and young people performers including solo singers, bands, choirs, dancers and a talent contest.

This year's event is being led by the HEAT Network which includes a consortium of local communities and being supported by a number of local organisations and residents.  The Big Lunch has been running in Ward End Park for the last 4 years and attracted 5000 people last year.  It is an initiative founded by the Eden Project and takes place across the country.
