Statement from Birmingham City Council regarding Aston Arena.

A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said:

“Aston Arena is not owned by Birmingham City Council, as  incorrectly reported by several sources.

“It is owned by the Homes and Communities Agency (an agency of the Government), which is working with the city council to develop an Advanced Manufacturing Hub, due to launch in the autumn.

“Phase one of this initiative will initially create 1,500 much-needed jobs and includes the land that is currently occupied by Aston Arena - which has been earmarked for demolition for seven years as the scheme has been progressed.

“During this process it has been demonstrated that there is adequate and ample provision of leisure services and facilities in the area to meet local requirements.

“Despite this, we are working with the groups who use Aston Arena to relocate them within the area.”
