Birmingham lands Commonwealth Sports Awards

Details: Following last month's announcement that the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards are returning to Birmingham, the city has attracted another major sporting awards ceremony.

The 29th annual Commonwealth Sports Awards will be held at the ICC on Saturday, 6 November 2010.

Launched in 1980, the awards honour the achievements of sportsmen and women from across the Commonwealth and previous winners include Denise Lewis, Brian Lara, Dwight Yorke, Lennox Lewis, Michael Owen, Joe Calzaghe, Chris Hoy and Paula Radcliffe

Birmingham City Council leader Cllr Mike Whitby will be joined by President of the Commonwealth Games Federation Mike Fennell and Al Hamilton MBE, Founder, Commonwealth Sports Awards Foundation to formally announce November's event.

The trio will be available for interview.
