BMX champions head to Birmingham

The European League returns to the World Class BMX track in Perry Park this month when rounds 9 and 10 of the UEC BMX European League are staged in Birmingham on 21 and 22 June.

And as a qualifying event for Rio 2016, some of the biggest names from across Europe will be taking part in this prestigious and exciting event, including the reigning world champion, Liam Phillips.

Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Ian Ward, said: “We are thrilled to welcome back to the city for the second time, the UEC BMX European League and I am extremely pleased that we welcome a whole host of riders to compete in what looks set to be a fantastic event.

“The track, now one of the best in Europe, has played host to World Champions Shanaze Reade and Liam Phillips, and we're hoping to see some new stars emerge at this year's championships.”

Scot Beaumont, who was World Champion in 1995 and 1996 and winner of the 2008 and 2012 British national 4X championships, added: “Birmingham is one of the premier racing venues in the UK and has proved to be a favourite on the UK race calendar. It has many great elements with a mix of speed and good technical straights.”

The event was last held in Birmingham in 2011 and saw BMXers from all over Europe compete in this prestigious event.

Ticket prices start from £4 and can be bought via   On the day, prices start at adult weekend £10, concessionary weekend £6, adult Sunday £7, concessionary Sunday £4 with children under six years free.

The competition takes place over two days and offers spectators the opportunity to camp in Perry Park for the duration of the event. Pitches can be booked in advance at £18 per pitch per day, or paid for on the day at £30 per pitch per day.

Public car parking is available at Perry Park for £5 and refreshments are available on site.
