Breakfast boost for cancer charity

By on 10/06/2011 in News

Big hearted traders at Birmingham's International Food Fair (June 9-19) have pledged to give a share of their profits from the 11-day event to a leading cancer charity.

Andersons Bar and Grill and Jo's Coffee To Go have added a breakfast shift to the annual event (8-10am), offering bacon rolls, coffees and teas, with 50p from each purchase going to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The special breakfast menu will be on sale from 8-10am each morning and organisers also hope to raise awareness ahead of September's 21st annual World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

Natalie Bridge, Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising manager for Birmingham and the Black Country, said: “We are very pleased and grateful for the organisers of this year's Food Fair for choosing to support Macmillan Cancer Support.

“It is great to be associated with such an exciting event in the heart of the Midlands. We would also like say a big thank you to Andersons Bar and Grill and Jo's Coffee To Go, who are donating a percentage of their sales each morning at the event to go to Macmillan Cancer Support.”

Event organiser Simon Widdowson added: “The International Food Fair has proved to be a popular event over the last two years and hopefully we can use this year's fair as a platform to raise funds and awareness for a great cause. I'm sure the breakfasts will prove to be a great success.”

World's Biggest Coffee Morning

This year is the Coffee Morning's 21st anniversary. Last year we had around 2,000 Coffee Morning's taking place across the Birmingham and Black Country area, raising almost £300,000. This year we want to spread the word to make it even bigger and better so we can raise more money so more people affected by cancer can be supported in the ways they need. For any more information about this flagship event and to register please visit http://coffee.macmillan.org.uk

Even though the official day is Friday 30th September, anyone can do the coffee morning, any time, anywhere!

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. We provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.

This year is a big one for Macmillan Cancer support - it is our Centenary year! One hundred years go Douglas Macmillan started the charity with just £10 with one of the ways he supported local people and their families was by delivery coal to their houses so they had fuel. Today, Macmillan still carries some of those same values and aims to reach everyone affected by cancer in the UK.
