Bridal boutique owner to pay £3,020 for fly tipping
A Birmingham businessman has been ordered to pay £3,020 after pleading guilty to five offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (18 January 2017).
Syed Gillani (33) of Vibart Road, Sheldon, was fined £1,400 – including £500 for providing false information to officers. He was also ordered to pay £1,500 costs and a £120 victim surcharge, after packaging from his business - Origa Bridal Boutique and Menswear based at 158a Ladypool Road, Sparkbrook – was found dumped in a nearby alleyway.
Birmingham City Council took action against Gillani after Waste Enforcement Unit officers found boxes and packaging labelled Origa behind 146-158 Ladypool Road on 25 June 2015.
Three further incidents of waste being dumped at this location were reported on 15 August, 16 October 2015 and 4 February 2016 - when building materials, plasterboard and wooden boards were found alongside documents and packaging relating to the boutique.
Tony Quigley, head of Birmingham City Council’s Waste Enforcement Unit, said: “This case shows we will not tolerate this sort of activity and the council will crackdown on this type of offending when we can identify the culprits. If you see anybody fly tipping waste, contact the council as soon as possible as we need residents to come forward help us tackle fly tippers.”
