Burst water main – Kings Heath

By on 21/04/2010 in News

Earlier today a 12 inch water main burst in Dad’s Lane, Kings Heath, affecting approximately 18,000 properties in the surrounding area.

The Birmingham Resilience Team (BRT) has issued the following bulletin on the incident (information correct as of 5.25pm, April 21, 2010):

  • The city council understands from Severn Trent Water that all properties should have had their supplies restored by now.
  • Some customers may however be experiencing low water pressure.
  • Severn Trent Water is continuing its effort to repair the water main
  • BCC Schools and Governor Support has confirmed seven schools were closed as their facilities were without water.
  • Severn Trent Water has issued press statements to local media via their usual systems.
  • After being initially notified of the incident, the BRT issued a Birmingham Community Alert message to people signed up in and around the area and the Birmingham Prepared website was updated.
  • BRT deployed an officer to the Dad’s Lane area to liaise directly with Severn Trent at the scene.
  • BRT also activated a volunteer B’ham Resilience Champion, who attended the scene at Dad’s Lane, and he confirmed that none of the nearby residential properties have been flooded.

As water supplies have now been restored, there will be no further updates to this post.

Schools closed all expected to be re-opened tomorrow (April 22):

  • St Dunstan’s Catholic Primary B14 7LP
  • Uffculme School B13 8QB

Very useful site – more people should know it is here. Much more info than Severn Trent! But then they have commercial issues to think of. We just need our water back.

You should update this every hour if only to say “3pm no more news”, so we know how recent it is.

By the way, is there any news? Most pressing would be an ETA of the water.

    Keep up the good work

Martin – thanks for the feedback.

The post is now amended with a 5.25pm update. We’ve been informed by Severn Trent that water supplies are back (albeit in some cases with low pressure).

Hopefully things are back to normal for you!

Is this fixed now, as at 22 April 6.30pm? am experiencing low pressure

  3. Simon Felton says:

I live on Dads Lane and just spoke with the workers. Water has been cut off to properties on Dads Lane near the pipe as they fix a second burst pipe near an electric cable. I gathered from him water is still on for the remainder of those affected but at low pressure.
