Carers urged to be selfish during Carers Week

By on 11/06/2010 in News

carers week events 2010 across the city to highlight the vital work of those who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled, will take place from 14th -20th June. This year, the theme for the week is “a life of my own”.

Events includes a laughter workshop to help carers discover how to have more fun, as well as pampering sessions and art, music and poetry workshops.

The week is being hosted at a range of venues by Birmingham Carers Centre, who provide information, advice, support and activities for carers to participate in throughout the year.

Peter Hay, Strategic Director of Adults and Communities at Birmingham City Council, says:

“It is so important that carers make time for themselves and look after their own well being.

“The contribution made by carers is immense. The support of relations and friends improves the quality of life of those cared for.

“We also know that Carers' contribution has a large economic value. At times, all these gains seem to come at a personal cost to the carer.

“That is why the Carers Centre is so important in raising awareness and celebrating carers.”
