Gritters out to treat the Birmingham network from 6pm.

Crews will then treat the priority footways from 4.30am on Monday 25 March.

Light snow has continued to fall throughout the night. Met Office forecasts still indicate that the snow will become more patchy and that very cold and dry conditions will continue throughout today with bitterly cold winds and low temperatures extending into next week.

Actions yesterday

Gritting operations and ploughing of the Priority Treated Network continued throughout the day until 16:00 when ploughing was scaled back as all roads were clear. Further gritting commenced with fresh crews at 18:00 in order to help prevent ice and snow formation overnight

Actions today

Further patrol gritting commenced this morning to widen running lanes where appropriate. This will continue until conditions dictate that this may cease. Footway treatments on Priority One footways continued overnight and this morning as necessary before daytime resources are redirected to Priority Two footways.

Snow ploughing and gritting will continue overnight and tomorrow. Please take extra care if you’re going out.

Met Office Yellow Warnings for Snow and ice continue to be in place until tomorrow morning. www.metoffice.gov.uk It is predicted that the snow should gradually become lighter by the morning but conditions will be icy and motorists and pedestrians need to take care

Snow ploughing and gritting has continued throughout the day and traffic has flowed well on most main routes

Most public transport disruptions were lifted throughout the day. Bus services will continue as normal throughout the evening weather permitting. Updates available at http://nxbus.co.uk/

UPDATE 12.30pm

The Met office has advised that the situation is now improving with a trend towards drier conditions over the next 24 hours. It is still possible that there could be another 2 to 5cm of snow in places today and continued drifting in the strong winds, especially on higher ground.

Through the night any snow will gradually become lighter and more patchy and finally die out during Sunday morning. The emphasis for much of Sunday and into next week is on mostly dry but very cold conditions.

9.30am

A Met Office Yellow Warning of Snow is still in force for the West Midlands valid from 00.05 Sat 23 Mar to 23.59 Sat 23 Mar. The snow continued throughout the night and is likely to continue today with very cold temperatures.

Most main roads are reported to be accessible but are heavy and the conditions are making driving difficult, side roads mainly poor

Bus services have been disrupted particularly in the Northfield, Kings Norton, and Kingstanding areas. Bus updates http://nxbus.co.uk/

24hr gritting programmes were implemented yesterday. Crews will continue gritting and ploughing throughout the day and tonight.

Highways and Resilience Officers will continue to monitor.
