City Council Annual Meeting Postponed
A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said:
“The Annual Meeting of the City Council, which includes the 'Election of the Lord Mayor 2013/14', due to take place on Tuesday 21 May 2013 will be postponed until the next scheduled meeting of the full council on Tuesday 11 June 2013.
“Lord Mayor-elect, Cllr Mike Leddy, is currently in hospital in Birmingham undergoing treatment for a recurring condition, which flared up while he was on holiday in New Zealand earlier this year.
“Cllr Leddy is expected to be out of hospital next week but he needs a short period of time to recover fully. Therefore, it was considered the wisest course of action to postpone the mayor-making until next month.
“The Lord Mayor's Show will continue as planned in Birmingham city centre on Bank Holiday Monday, 27 May 2013, with the current Lord Mayor, Cllr John Lines, presiding over events. Cllr Lines will continue as Lord Mayor until 11 June 2013.
