birmingham-signs-up-to-homeless-health-charter0Council tenants are again urged to switch on their central heating before winter arrives so that any problems can be dealt with swiftly.

Birmingham City Council cabinet member for Neighbourhood Management and Homes, Cllr John Cotton, said: “Although Birmingham’s council tenants have a free annual gas service, problems often only come to light when the heating is switched back on during a cold spell.

“With this in mind I’d urge all tenants to turn on their heating now to check if it’s all working properly.  This simple test will help us to manage the demand for repair call outs efficiently.

“I would also like to remind tenants that if they smell gas they should contact the national gas emergency service immediately and then the repairs contact centre afterwards.”
