Plans to attract increasing levels of inward investment into Birmingham and create thousands of job opportunities, are set for a major boost this Monday as Birmingham City Council's Cabinet is asked to approve a package of additional funding for a three-year sales and marketing programme to be delivered with Marketing Birmingham.

Funded through a £1 million grant from the Working Neighbourhoods Fund (WNF) plus other private and public sector sources it is expected that this will be part of a longer terms campaign to attract global businesses to the city, helping to support the creation of some 9,000 new jobs over the next 5 years

The campaign will build upon successes of recent years which have seen private sector companies such as Deutsche Bank and Amey, plus various government departments relocate to the City.

The council has already agreed to colocate Locate in Birmingham with Marketing Birmingham as part of its plans to help support this work.

Cllr Neville Summerfield, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said:

“The council and Marketing Birmingham believe that the time is right, as the worldwide economy begins to recover, to launch a major programme of raising the profile and reputation of the city as a business location and to promote it across a range of key sectors and markets.

“We are showing our commitment to this ambition by providing significant additional financial resource to bring this about.  Working together with Marketing Birmingham will bring together expertise and skills that will bring a real dynamic approach to raising our profile and attracting inward investment to the city”.
