Response to Nick Clegg's announcement of further community budget pilots, announced at the LGA conference in Birmingham today (June 29):

Cllr Paul Tilsley, Deputy Leader of Birmingham City Council, speaking after a meeting with Nick Clegg this morning, said: “We welcome the Deputy Prime Minister's announcement on the intention to create more community budget pilots at a neighbourhood and city-wide level.

“We have a strong track record of innovation and success when it comes to working with our public sector partners to pool budgets to achieve better outcomes for our citizens.

“We are currently one of the 16 pilots for community budgets dealing with early intervention with children and young people and are also working with the government on neighbourhood budgets, which means we are perfectly placed to be one of the pilots when bidding begins.

“I have discussed with the Deputy Prime Minister on several occasions what we have already done, and I am sure our recent achievements will give us the best chance possible when the Government considers where it is best to run these future schemes.”
