DCLG weekly waste bid update

The following statement is an update on the plans for public consultation related to Birmingham City Council’s proposals to introduce wheeled bins for refuse collection, as part of a government scheme to encourage weekly waste collections:

Cllr James McKay, Cabinet Member for a Green, Safe and Smart City, said: “We believe the most effective way to consult on the future of Birmingham’s waste collections would be to await the final outcome of the DCLG’s Weekly Collection Support Scheme bidding process.

“Once we know what level of support we are to receive from the DCLG, we will go to citizens to seek their views and opinions on the best way to deliver the service with the resources we will definitely have available.”

“The consultation will be conducted through a number of methods such as surveys and people's panel sessions, together with information gathering from other local authorities and other stakeholder groups.”
