Don’t fowl up your christmas with a toxic turkey

With the Food Standards Agency citing December as the most commonly reported month for food poisoning cases (20% attributed to poultry), the environmental health department is inviting residents to get clean with Santa at a Christmas food safety event at the German Market.

Student Environmental Health Officers are hosting a 'Turkey Tour' where Christmas angels in Santa's grotto will give advice on preparing, cooking and storing their turkey.

On completion of the tour, Santa will be handing out free food safety Christmas gifts including organic cotton reusable bags and fruit. People can enter a free prize draw and win a £25 voucher towards the cost of their food shopping bill. Healthy eating meal alternatives for a credit crunch Christmas will also be available.

Santa says:

“On the twelfth day of Christmas, I didn't defrost the turkey properly, and that gave me a dodgy belly.”

The tour is free and will take place on Monday 14th December 2009 from 10am-3pm, at corner of New Street and Victoria Square.
