One Birmingham family will be given an extra festive treat just a week before Christmas, after winning a competition to feature on a giant advent calendar in the city centre.

A photograph of Bernadette McEntee, her son, Liam, and daughter, Kiara of Erdington enjoying the carousel at the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market was picked by the German traders from entries emailed in by the public.

Speaking about being chosen, Bernadette said: “I am very thrilled to have won the competition. I am a proud mum who loves Christmas and to be featured on the advent calendar is just fantastic.”

The picture will join images of Birmingham and Frankfurt at Christmas on the calendar on Sunday 18 December 2011. The festive feature is located on a purpose-built stall in New Street, at the junction with Corporation Street and the Pallasades ramp.

Chrismoose, the world's only bi-lingual tweeting moose and face of the market, said: “Most people come to the market to gaze lovingly at me but now they have something much nicer to look at!”

The market, which is visited by three million people each year, will continue to run from 10am to 9pm until 23 December 2011.
