Five of Birmingham’s best Foster Carers will be recognised for their outstanding work with children at Aston Villa Holte Suite on Saturday night (13 June) when they receive awards at a fundraising ball for the Birmingham Foster Care Association (BFCA).

Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Raymond Hassall said: “Too often we take for granted the love and support in our families.  Thanks to the selflessness of Birmingham’s foster carers, thousands of children get the chance to live with a loving family and are supported through what are often very difficult circumstances.  The charity ball is a chance to fundraise, have fun, and recognise some of you for the incredible work that you do for our children.  Thank you.”

Awards will be given for –

Fantastic Foster Carer(s) – nominated by the young people whom they currently foster

Going the extra mile – nominated by a social worker from the fostering team, someone judged to have gone the extra mile

Foster carer(s) who have made a positive difference – nominated by fellow foster carers, council staff or the young people fostered by them, someone who has made a real positive difference in helping our young people turn their life around

Foster carer(s) who have put our young people first – nominated by fellow foster carers or council staff, someone who goes out of their way to be available to support our children and young people who come into emergency foster care

Foster carer(s) who have supported a young person in helping them to become fully independent following foster care support – nominated by fellow foster carers and council staff, the young person may have successfully moved to independent living with the support and help of ‘ over and above support’ from their foster carer(s)

There are nearly 600 foster carers who look after children in Birmingham and BFCA raises money to support activities for the children in their care.
