Birmingham City Council's legal team has again beaten off stiff competition from several high-profile national law firms as it seeks to generate income from new business.

On the back of its recent success on being appointed on three panels on the Health Trust Europe/LPP Services Framework Agreement; [Contract and Commercial Law (ranked 2nd), Employment Law (ranked 2nd), Other Law (ranked 1st)] Birmingham's Legal Team, has now received the news it was waiting for, and has also been appointed on to the Property Law panel (ranked 2nd), making it a clean sweep for the Department for all the Lots it applied for.

Birmingham achieved a ranking of second out of 16 for the Property Law panel – narrowly missing out on the top spot by less than half a percent.

The agreement will see the department potentially provide legal services on contracts worth up to £10million, for up to 70 NHS trusts in the Midlands and South East for an initial three years, with an option to extend for 12 months.

John Wynn, Assistant Director, who leads on practice development/income generation at Birmingham City Council, said: “I am extremely pleased that we succeeded with all four panel submissions, and we very much look forward to delivering the high quality legal advice, support and assistance to the NHS, that Birmingham’s legal department is renowned for.

“This is a unique achievement for any in-house local authority Legal Services department and forms part of our five-year strategy to revolutionise the way high quality legal services are delivered for the public sector by the public sector.”
