Frankfurt Christmas Market Family Fun Day

Enjoy the magic of the festive season at Birmingham's Frankfurt Christmas Market on Saturday (Nov 20) with the first of our ever popular Family Days.

Organisers have lined up a magician, storytellers and German Christmas-themed activities, while visitors can also enjoy a host of special offers as the market celebrates its 10th anniversary.

And Birmingham Central Library's Centre for the Child will also host a programme of children's activities throughout the day.

Birmingham City Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture Martin Mullaney said: “The Family Days are hugely popular events and this year we've got some great entertainment for visitors to the market.

“For many people the return of the Frankfurt Christmas Market really means the festive season is on its way and we're looking forward to welcoming thousands of visitors on Saturday.”

Now in its tenth year, the Frankfurt Christmas Market is the largest authentic German market held anywhere in the world outside Germany and Austria.

Staged in Victoria Square and New Street, the Frankfurt Christmas Market features traditional stalls offering handmade toys, Christmas decorations, jewellery, clothing and craft goods.

Visitors can also enjoy the delights of German mulled wine (Glühwein), grilled sausages, pretzels, German beer, gingerbread, stollen, crepes and marzipan sweets.

The market will also once again incorporate a Christmas Craft Fair, featuring a selection of beautiful hand-crafted items created by local artisans, as well as ethnic goods imported from all over the world.

Notes to editors

The market, which last year attracted a staggering three million visitors and boosted the city's economy by £89.6million, is open for seven days a week (10am to 9pm) from November 18 to December 23.

In addition to the Frankfurt Christmas Market, Birmingham hosts the Christmas Craft Fair on Chamberlain and Centenary Squares, featuring a selection of beautiful hand-crafted items created by local artisans, as well as ethnic goods imported from all over the world.

Discount offers will be available on each stall during the Family Day. Offers are available to everyone, not just families.
