If you're keen to get out on your bike a bit more this summer but don't know where to start, a new series of free bike rides coming to Birmingham could be the answer.

Part of a national campaign to get more people cycling for fun, Sky Ride Local is a fantastic range of free guided bike rides taking place throughout the summer months.

British Cycling and Sky, in partnership with Birmingham City Council, have scheduled a range of Sky Ride Local rides for 2014. Guided by friendly British Cycling Ride Leaders along scenic local routes, they're pitched at three different levels, so there's something for everyone.

Stewart Kellett, British Cycling's Director of Recreation and Partnerships, said: 'What better way to get some exercise, get outdoors and explore your local area than to join some of the friendly Sky Ride Local bike rides taking place in and around Birmingham this summer.

'There's no time like the present to get your bike out. So whether you're still building your cycling confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge, why not register your free place on a Sky Ride Local.'

A spokesperson for Birmingham City Council said: “This year we have had difficulties in securing a date and a suitable route so we have regrettably had to withdraw from the 2014 SkyRide Event.  Our partnership with British Cycling is particularly important as cycling is one of our identified priority sports and we are working with them to establish a new route and date for theSkyRide Event in 2015.

“We are also committed to supporting SkyRide Local rides which are guided by British Cycling Ride leaders and Breeze rides for women.  These are all free and are grouped in levels to suit everyone from beginners, including children, to experienced cyclists - see for further information.”
