This Valentine's Day, hundreds of eager runners are expected to descend on Brindley Place, Birmingham for the official launch of the Bupa Great Birmingham Run 2012.

The Bupa Great Run team is offering those who 'love running' the chance to win one of ten free places in this year's event - and to meet British Olympian and Commonwealth Games 400m Champion, Iwan Thomas.

From 12pm onwards, on Tuesday 14th February, the first 100 people to arrive in Central Square will also get a free lunch, courtesy of Thai Edge restaurant, with music from the brmb street team - the perfect winter warmer!

Jamie Still, race director from event organiser Nova said, “We were overwhelmed with the level of support from the people of Birmingham last year, it was our first year organising the event and we've had incredibly positive feedback from runners and spectators alike.

“We're committed to continuing this conversation to make sure their experience is even better in 2012. We're also talking to our partners, Birmingham City Council, about the possibility of increasing the number of runners we can accommodate in October.”

Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, Cllr Martin Mullaney, said: “The first ever Bupa Great Birmingham Run  was a huge success and I’m sure this year’s event will build on what was an amazing day.

“It was always our intention for the event to grow year on year and, thanks to our partnership with Nova, that’s exactly what is happening.”

15,000 runners took part in the 2011 event, raising thousands for charity, completing personal challenges or taking an important step towards a healthy lifestyle. For your chance to be part of it in 2012 visit .
