Half marathon a hit

Over 6,000 people have already signed up for the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon – with more than two months to go before the big day.

And Councillor Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sports and Culture, says Birmingham has a wealth of training facilities to prepare entrants for the 13.1 mile road race.

Following last year’s success,  this year’s event will be held on Sunday, October 11, just an hour after Birmingham plays host to the 18th IAAF World Half Marathon Championship.

Amateur runners will follow in the footsteps of the elite athletes.

Cllr Mullaney said: “Once again this year we will be looking to get more local people active. Birmingham has some superb facilities, including leisure centres and swimming pools, and I encourage local people to make the most of them.”

To enter the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon, log onto www.birminghamhalfmarathon.com.

Entry costs £23 or £21 for members of athletics clubs, students and the over-60s, plus an online entry fee for each entry. There is a minimum age of 17.
