Half marathon – play your part

By on 10/07/2009 in News

If you want to play your part in the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon on October 11 but don't fancy running over 13 miles, why not join the band of volunteers aiming to ensure the event runs smoothly?

Last year more than 500 volunteers helped to make the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon a success and we couldn't have done it without them.

This year we need even more people to help make this event and the 18th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships a success.

Councillor Martin Mullaney, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sports and Culture, said: “There are other ways people can get involved as we need hundreds of volunteers, with a variety of skills, to help us stage the event.

“We are also keen to encourage people to line the route and cheer on the runners as they make their way through the city.”

Volunteers must be 16 or over and available to work on the day of the event and for some specific roles on the days leading up to the event as well.

Available roles include:

  • Race Marshals
  • Water Station Assistants
  • Race Marshal Supervisors
  • Baggage Assistants
  • Finish Line Distributors
  • Sports Massage Therapists
  • Media Assistants
