Half price green waste collections go on sale today

in News

Green-fingered gardeners can sign up to Birmingham City Council's green waste recycling service for half price from today (14 July).

For a one-off payment of £17.50, residents will receive up to 10 fortnightly collections for the remainder of this year's growing season. People who buy this service online will receive a further £2 discount, paying just £15.50 - or as little as £1.55 per collection.

The green waste half year collection runs from early August to late November, as there are no collections between December and February.

Residents who take up this cut-price offer will be able to dispose of their grass and garden cuttings in green waste wheelie bins or sacks - which is a cleaner and more convenient option than making trips to their local tip.

To take advantage of this half price Green Recycling Service offer, call the council's contact centre on 303 1111 or order it online at www.birmingham.gov.uk/greenrecycling

This offer is only valid for the remainder of the 2014 growing season. Subscribers will have to pay the full-year price for collections from March 2015.

The Green Recycling Collection Service was introduced in February, in response to central government funding cuts to the city council's budget, as the service - which is not a statutory service - was no longer affordable.

Cllr Lisa Trickett, cabinet member for green, smart and sustainable city, said: “This offer gives people, who have yet to subscribe to our Green Recycling Service, the opportunity to benefit from clean and convenient doorstep collections as they maintain their gardens over the next few months.

“If residents do not wish to sign up to this service, they can compost their cuttings at home, enabling them to nourish their garden plants and recycle their waste.”
