Handsworth man fined £1400 for playing loud music
A Birmingham man who repeatedly breached noise abatement orders by playing his music loudly at his Handsworth home was found guilty in his absence of two offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today (8 May 2015).
Vincent Caines, 21, of Grosvenor Road, Handsworth, was fined £1400 and ordered to pay court costs of £1492.
Birmingham City Council brought the case against Caines after he flouted a noise abatement notice, served on 25 November 2014, for playing loud music on a number of occasions.
Officers initially executed a search warrant on the 18 December 2014 and seized Caine’s audio equipment, however following further problems a second seizure of equipment at his home was required on the 9 February 2015.
Jacqui Kennedy, Director of Regulation & Enforcement said: “The Department have received complaints about loud music coming from Mr Caines’ home since September 2014 and as a result he was served with a noise abatement notice on 25 November 2014 as he was unwilling to work with our officers.
“Environmental health continued to receive complaints and, as a result, seized audio equipment from his home on two occasions.
“Despite being asked to turn down the volume, he has repeatedly broken the terms of this notice and shown a lack of respect for his neighbours’ welfare and wellbeing.”
