Birmingham City Council and the local NHS have launched a consultation about Healthwatch Birmingham, encouraging people across the city to take part and help shape future health and social care services.

Healthwatch Birmingham will be an independent organisation that champions service users, giving them an opportunity to share their experiences and have their say about the quality and development of their local health and social care services.

It will also provide local patients and the public with information about health and social care services so they can make informed choices about their care as well as highlighting opportunities for people to influence the commissioning of services and provide additional voices to scrutinise them.

The consultation is available online at http://bit.ly/hwconsult and is an opportunity for local people to have their say on what they want from Healthwatch Birmingham. Residents and users of local health and social care services are being asked to share their views about how they would like to be involved in Healthwatch Birmingham, how it can work for them and how it can tell people what it has achieved.

Councillor Steve Bedser, Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing said, “These are vital services that impact on us all and it's absolutely essential that we consult the people of Birmingham, so they can have a say on the future of health and social care in the city.

“Healthwatch Birmingham will be open to all and I would encourage anyone interested in creating an organisation that works for them and their local community, to take part in this consultation.”

The consultation closes on 14th September 2012. The consultation is available online and in all Birmingham GP surgeries. You can also tell us what you think by calling the Healthwatch consultation team on 0121 464 4551 or by emailing us at Heathwatch@bhwbb.info
