Lord Mayor of Birmingham - Cllr Anita WardLord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Anita Ward, makes her blogging debut with a celebration of the city.

It's been a whirlwind start to my year as Lord Mayor of Birmingham and I can't believe I've been in office for six weeks already.

I've had a hectic start but enjoyed every minute of it.

As my predecessors will testify, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham gets to meet people from all communities and age groups across this great city and I've met some remarkable people since May 24.

Now as a Brummie born and bred I think I'm qualified to make the observation that we don't always shout about the positive things in our city. We know our city is great; it's just not the Birmingham way to make a song and dance about it.

But the last few weeks have served as a reminder to me that even if difficult times we have plenty to shout about and I want to celebrate the positive things about Birmingham.

As many of you will know, the office of Lord Mayor is a non-political role. So I'm not looking to score party political points, I just want to celebrate my city.

So, as I meet people and groups across the city who help to make Birmingham a great place in 2011, I'm going to tweet about them using the hashtag #lovebrum

I'm very new to twitter and I'm just finding my way. But I'd like to use my account to sing the praises of a wonderful but very modest city.

So please join me in this celebration of civic pride. If you visit one of our wonderful parks, for example, let us know with a tweet using the hashtag.

I will of course re-tweet as many of your suggestions as I can.
